Oh man, you guys are in for a treat. This summer wedding at Race and Religious features some familiar faces! If you’re in the wedding industry, you know Katie and Walker. They are the brilliant minds behind Black Pearl Catering, and everyone’s favorite catering company. The food they create is beautiful, delicious, and their presentation is unmatched. They are also some of the best people I know. I’ll never forget when I met Walker, which was at a wedding of course. He had set aside a plate of food for me with fish, truffle mashed potatoes, and a vegetable I clearly forgot (because who remembers veggies?) He also gave my second shooter an entire container of secret sauce to take home, because she wouldn’t stop talking about how good it was. That’s the kind of person Walker is. And if you’ve ever worked a wedding, you know how special it is to be thought of and given an entire gorgeous meal. It was heaven on a plate. I always always always look forward to seeing Black Pearl at weddings, because I know the food is going to be slammin’. I remember one of my early interactions with Katie was at Race and Religious, where I found out her and Walker weren’t married. I was surprised since they had this company together, and if you see them, it just makes perfect sense that they would be married. Well, fast forward a couple years later, and here I am – photographing their summer Race and Religious wedding. That’s another shocker because they could’ve chosen anyone (they know everyone in the industry), and they picked me. Agh. That really truly means something to me. Katie is absolutely floored by this yellow masterpiece Doris Ione created for her. I really adore the palette Katie picked out for her bridesmaids. The warm tones were perfect for her summer wedding! Katie is really close with her dad, and everyone in the room teared up watching him see his daughter for the first time on her wedding day. Walker had a special gift for Katie. She always jokes around with him to “say something nice about me,” and he’ll give her short little compliments. But on their wedding day, he wrote her an entire list of nice things about Katie. Are we crying again? I am! This wedding was extra special since I actually knew many guests. These are my friends and other fellow wedding vendors! Katie didn’t want to stress the flower girl out by walking down the aisle, so she had her toss petals from the bridge. Such a cute idea! Katie and Walker exchanged vows over the pool! Walker is known for his “Wooooo!” If you know him, you can probably hear this photo too! I was the photographer/guest, so I did an outfit change and got in on the dance floor action! Black Pearl had their team cater their own wedding, and they really outdid themselves! Cocktail Creative made the most delicious drinks! Poems were written by Cubs. Katie and Walker’s catering team. Another “WOOOO” from Walker! You know it’s a good wedding when Pizza Delicious gets delivered! And no summer wedding at Race and Religious would be complete without jumping in the pool, am I right? I got in too and let my second shooter, shoutout Jordan, take over 🙂 Vendors: Coordination – Mint Julep Productions Ceremony + Reception Venue – Race and ReligousSpecialty Rentals – LovegoodReception Musician – Johnny Sketch and the Dirty NotesCaterer – Black Pearl (+ Brian with Barn & Table Catering)Bar – Cocktail + CreativeEvent Rentals – True ValueFlorist – Doris IoneHair + Makeup – Flawless BrideBride’s Makeup – Melissa VaccaroDesserts – Ryan Universe & Bittersweet ConfectionsLagniappe – Cubs the PoetLate Night Food – Pizza DeliciousSignage – Hily (It’s a Nice Day) See another wedding with colorful florals here!
